Congress leader Ashok Chavan has come to meet the interim president of the Congress, Sonia Gandhi amid the controversy over the Uddhav government over CAA-NPR. It is believed that the issue of CAA-NPR will be discussed between the two. The Congress has already opposed this in Maharashtra.
Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Tuesday that he will not stop the process of National Population Register (NPR) in the state. Thackeray assured that he would investigate all the columns of NPR himself. He said that there should be no problem in Maharashtra in the process of preparing NPR.
Uddhav Thackeray tweeted that CAA and NRC are different and NPR is different. If the CAA applies then no one has to worry. NRC is not in place and will not be implemented in the state. He said that NPR will be applicable in the state as there is nothing controversial in it. Thackeray said that he will not allow NRC to be implemented in the state. He said that if NRC is implemented then not only Hindu or Muslim tribal will also be affected. NPR is a census and I do not think it will be affected because it happens every ten years.
The Congress and NCP is different from Shiv Sena regarding National Population Register (NPR). The central government has issued a notification to start the process of NPR across the country from May 1. The Shiv Sena has also said that it is with the central government in this matter. On the other hand, the Congress has been opposing the matter nationwide since the beginning. Now NCP has also come in support of Congress. Both parties are engaged in a tussle with the Shiv Sena regarding this matter.
