Asaram’s followers throng hospital after the jailed godman complains of chest pain

A large number of followers of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu from Gujarat poured in at the Mathuradas Mathur Hospital at Jodhpur where he has been admitted after he complained of chest pain.

The followers thronged the hospital to inquire about his health and raised slogans in favour of the jailed godman.

Later, on Thursday,  Asaram was discharged from the hospital and taken back to the Jodhpur Central jail. The followers from Gujarat tried to follow the van that took him to jail.

The followers from Gujarat picked up sand from the road from which his van passed and applied the sand on their forehead to show their respect and affection for the godman.

Asaram complained of chest pain

Asaram was jailed for molesting a minor in his ashram and was lodged in Jodhpur jail. On Wednesday, he complained of chest pain and after that, he was taken to the Mathuradas Mathur Hospital for medical examination.

The doctors subjected him to several tests after which it was advised to keep him in the hospital for observation. The godman said that he was having breathing problems and also chest pain and also pains in both his legs.

Asaram’s condition stable

Asaram told doctors that he had three blockages and was advised an operation. One of the attending doctors said Asaram’s general conditions remained stable, but he was complaining of chest pain.

He has been advised to rest and was being treated for chest pain.

Cops deployed at hospital

Police teams were deployed at the hospital as the godman’s followers started pouring in after hearing about his illness. Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment and he is out of jail after three years for treatment. The police prevented the followers to meet him.

One of his followers said Asaram looked very tired and ill and had told his followers that he was suffering from seven different diseases and was feeling uncomfortable in the jail. He required treatment, but the doctors who took his ECG and chest X-ray, found him to be alright.

Asaram has been lodged in the Jodhpur jail since 2013 and is being tried in the lower courts in Jodhpur on various charges. His bail applications were rejected several times by the lower courts and also by the High Court. In the last seven years, his bail pleas were rejected over a dozen times by various courts.

His followers from Gujarat are still pouring in and they have demanded that looking at his poor health, he should be given bail to enable him to avail treatment. The followers are contemplating moving to the court with a fresh request for bail looking at his declining health.
