Controversial self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, whose oxygen level dipped on Sunday, is being provided with Ayurvedic treatment as desired by him. Asaram, who is lodged in Jodhpur jail, is being administered oxygen in the prison after he refused to go to AIIMS Jodhpur.

Asaram had tested positive for COVID-19 and was discharged from AIIMS two days ago. But on Sunday, his oxygen level dipped to 92 which was a cause of concern. The jail officials wanted to take him back to AIIMS, but Asaram insisted on an Ayurvedic treatment instead.

Jail officials then summoned Dr. Arun Tyagi of the Ayurveda University, who treated him after which the rape convict showed signs of improvement.

Asaram was told by the Ayurveda doctors to get himself examined and undergo a few pathological tests at either AIIMS or Mathuradas Mathur hospital. He is also suffering from prostate problems which have aggravated.

Asaram has been convicted for sexually exploiting a minor girl and is lodged in a jail in Jodhpur.

Court rejected Asaram’s bail plea

Upon contracting COVID-19, he made a plea in the Rajasthan High court seeking interim bail. The court, however, rejected his bail plea as the medical report of AIIMS said he was fit. The AIIMS report said that Asaram was in good health and his pulse rate of 96 per minute and blood pressure of 128/80 was normal. The report said that Asaram was improving after the viral infection and therefore, his interim bail plea was not maintainable.

Asaram was discharged from AIIMS after 14 days of quarantine and treatment. On May 14, Asaram complained of an ulcer in his stomach and even after his refusal was administered a blood transfusion.

Asaram in his bail plea had said that he wanted to go to Kerala for Ayurvedic treatment and he should be granted two months of interim bail. But the high court going by the AIIMS report rejected his plea.  Asaram will continue to get the Ayurvedic treatment in jail.
