Asaram again admitted to Jodhpur AIIMS following difficulty in breathing

Controversial self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, who is behind bars for raping a minor, was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur. The doctors at AIIMS asked him to undergo a few pathological tests before initiating his treatment.

On Tuesday night, Asaram told the jail staff that he was experiencing difficulty in breathing and the problem aggravated on Wednesday morning. Following this, the jail authority decided to take him to AIIMS. According to the doctors, Asaram has developed some post-COVID problems and the line of treatment will be decided after his test results arrive.

Asaram seeking interim bail

Asaram has moved an interim bail application in the Supreme Court and it was to come for hearing on Tuesday, but his counsel sought an adjournment for a week as he was unavailable. Asaram, who is currently serving various jail terms including life sentence in sexual assault cases in Jodhpur jail, had sought interim bail of two months to undergo “holistic” treatment for multiple ailments at an ayurvedic centre near Haridwar.

“We are not medical experts,” the vacation bench of justices BR Gavai and Krishna Murari observed, adding that it would not consider suspending the sentence and would rather issue notice to know the view of the state on permitting him to undergo treatment at the centre in Uttarakhand.

Rajasthan govt opposes plea

The Rajasthan High Court had earlier denied him bail after seeking a medical report of the convict from AIIMS. In the Supreme Court, the Rajasthan government has opposed Asaram’s bail plea saying that Asaram could get Ayurvedic treatment in Jodhpur and therefore, he should not be granted bail
