As reports of Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot reaching Delhi with his supporters spread like wildfire giving rise to murmurs about stability of the government in Rajasthan, chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday convened a meeting of MLAs at 9 pm to hold discussions on the ongoing political situation in the state.
All MLAs and legislators supporting Gehlot have been invited to the meeting, a media report said. Reports said Gehlot has been in touch with party MLAs since last night. On Sunday morning too Gehlot met several legislators and ministers who had come to meet him at his Jaipur residence in a show of support. Media reports said Gehlot has the support of 95 lawmakers.
Congress has 107 MLAs and the backing of another 18 in the 200 member Rajasthan assembly. The BJP has 72 legislators and support of three MLAs of Hanuman Beniwal’s RSLP. Despite rumours of party defection, Congress won both the seats for the Rajya Sabha elections.
