As the state records a surge in COVID-19 cases, the government has stopped the bus service from Ahmedabad to Vadodara. It should be noted that the spike is particularly high in Central and South Gujarat. The state has also stopped the service from Ahmedabad to Bharuch. Gujarat on Monday recorded 902 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single day spike recorded so far in the state.
The service between Ahmedabad and Surat was put on halt two days ago to prevent the spread of disease. Surat has been reporting the highest surge in COVID-19 cases in the last many days. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation had earlier begun rapid tests of those coming from Surat to the city. It had set up kiosks at the Expressway connecting Ahmedabad and Surat. So far 1,000 travellers have been checked of which over 40 have tested positive. Of the total, 574 tests were done on Friday while 450 were done on Saturday.
It should be noted that when Unlock 1.0 began the State Transport Bus Service was not started from Ahmedabad city as it had the highest number of cases. Eventually, as the state moved towards Unlock 2.0 the same was allowed.
