A contempt proceeding was initiated by the Gujarat High Court against a man seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a case, after he hatched a conspiracy to call the judge who was to decide the bail plea. The man got someone to call the judge in the name of MLA Niranjan Patel to make it look like he was the victim there. Unfortunately for him, the judge took offence at the call and ordered an inquiry following which the scam of the accused was exposed.

Justice Bela Trivedi got a call in connection with an anticipatory bail plea of one Vijay Shah on June 22 and the caller claimed that he was Petlad MLA Niranjan Patel. The angry judge ordered an inquiry into the matter. Police investigation revealed that it was Shah who asked one Alpesh Patel to call the judge posing as the MLA to make it seem that he was being framed by the MLA in connection with the case. Shah was seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a rioting case in which he had been booked.

After the judge ordered an inquiry into the matter, it was revealed that the phone number belonged to one Tosif Faiz Zerox. On contacting the owner of the photocopy shop, Tofiq Vora, he told police that on the day the call was made a person had come to his shop and asked if he could use his mobile to make a call to Delhi. The person pretended as if the call did not go through and then left. The incident was captured in the CCTV of the shop. Niranjan Patel also told the police that although he knew Shah he had not made the call.

Police later traced Alpesh Patel as the person who made the call. He told the cops that Shah had asked him to call the judge posing as the MLA to make it look like he had a motive in ensuring that Shah went to jail. The court has now ordered contempt proceedings against Shah.
