AP tourism dept man held for assaulting woman colleague

Andhra police arrested a senior employee of the state tourism department for beating a woman colleague with a stick and abusing her. The violence was triggered after the woman asked him to wear a face mask. The video of the incident which happened at AP Tourism Hotel at Dargamitta in Nellore town went viral on Tuesday on social media. The incident had happened on Saturday.

Police said the accused C Bhaskar, working as deputy manager at the AP Tourism Hotel, has been arrested and sent to judicial remand. Media reports said Bhaskar already had a grouse against the woman who was on contract with the department. Police said Bhaskar was talking to another man without wearing a mask when she suggested that he wear a mask because of COVID-19. This, police said, enraged the accused so much that he dragged her from her chair, pulled her hair and began beating her with a stick as well as with his hands. He also verbally abused her, police said.

His colleagues tried to intervene but the accused continued to hit the woman. The woman later filed a police complaint against the accused. Andhra Pradesh DGP Gautam Sawang has directed the Disha police station (exclusive police stations to deal with crime against women) to take up the investigation into the incident.
