Rajouri: The Poonch highway in Jammu and Kashmir remained closed for the third day on Saturday because of the ongoing anti-terror operations in the area.
On Thursday, two soldiers were killed by the militants in Bhata Dhurian village of Mendhar sub-division. A junior commissioned officer (JCO) was said to be missing. The JCO, initially presumed to be dead, was later found missing and efforts are on to trace him.
The operations began on Monday, October 11. Five soldiers, including a JCO were killed in the encounter in Surankote area of Poonch on Monday. Thus, seven soldiers have been killed so far.
Meanwhile, fresh firing was reported in the area on Saturday.
According to an army official, the killings prove that infiltration attempts have been made, some of which have been successful.
The entire forest area from Mendhar to Thanamandi along the Jammu-Rajouri highway has been cordoned off. Search operations in the area continue.
