Thousands of RJD supporters and workers in Bihar blocked roads and disrupted rail and road traffic on Saturday.They have blocked highways at Darbhanga and Vaishali. In Patna, hundreds of party supporters entered railway stations and bus stations with party flags, but were repulsed by policemen.
Children were also included in the party supporters. The highway was blocked by the RJD workers with the help of buffaloes and had also protested at the railway line and disrupted train movement.In Nawada, bandh supporters staged a demonstration on national highway 31 where they burnt tires on the road causing disruption in the movement of vehicles while agitators protested at Zero Mile Chowk in Muzaffarpur.
Additional Director General of Police Jitendra Kumar said, “Adequate forces have been deployed in all the districts of the state and officials concerned were asked to deal sternly with anyone trying to foment trouble.”
On Friday night, RJD workers led by Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav took out a march in the city with a torch in their hands to garner support for the shutdown. Which they termed as “an attempt to save the Constitution from the assault by Narendra Modi-led government at the Center”. Yadav said that, “It will be a peaceful protest, but if the state police indulges in any high-handedness,there would be a backlash.”
