The Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday night suspended a IPS officer of the rank of Director General of Police AB Venkateswara Rao for allegedly risking national security on charges of treason. These allegations are made on this IPS officer when he was the head of the state intelligence service.
Chief Secretary Neelam Sahni issued this order based on the report of Director General of Police Damodar Goutam Sawang. In this, Rao has been accused of ‘serious misconduct’ in the process of purchasing security equipment. While targeting the Modi government a day earlier, CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar said on Friday that treason charges are being distributed free like Prasad. However, a police officer arrested with terrorists has not been charged with treason yet.
Kanhaiya Kumar, a former student leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was referring to the suspended DSP Davinder Singh of Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a rally during the statewide ‘Jana Gana Mana’ Yatra against CAA-NPR-NRC, he said, “Treason charges are being distributed free like Prasad. In Karnataka, school children have been nominated on the basis of a play.”
