Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced that he has tested positive for coronavirus. Amit Shah also informed that he is doing fine and is getting admitted to hospital on the advice of doctors.
Shah requests people in close contact with him to self-isolate
The Union minister took to Twitter to make the announcement. He said that on getting initial symptoms of COVID-19, he got the test done. The test report has come positive. He said his health is fine, but upon the advice of his doctors, he has been admitted to a hospital.
कोरोना के शुरूआती लक्षण दिखने पर मैंने टेस्ट करवाया और रिपोर्ट पॉजिटिव आई है। मेरी तबीयत ठीक है परन्तु डॉक्टर्स की सलाह पर अस्पताल में भर्ती हो रहा हूँ। मेरा अनुरोध है कि आप में से जो भी लोग गत कुछ दिनों में मेरे संपर्क में आयें हैं, कृपया स्वयं को आइसोलेट कर अपनी जाँच करवाएं।

Shah also urged people who might have come in contact with him in the past few days to isolate themselves and go for a coronavirus test. Notably, he had taken part in a Cabinet meeting recently.

As the news about the Union minister testing positive for COVID-19 spread, get well soon messages started pouring in on Twitter.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari, Gujarat BJP president CR Paatil and Union environment minister Babul Supriyo tweeted about Amit Shah and wished him a faster recovery.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also wished Shah for a faster recovery.
UP minister succumbs to COVID-19
Uttar Pradesh’s Cabinet minister for technical education Kamal Rani Varun succumbed to COVID-19 on Sunday. Kamal Rani Varun died at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow.
She is the first minister in Uttar Pradesh to die after contracting coronavirus. She was 62.
Over 17.5 lakh COVID-19 cases in India
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday informed that 54,736 fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the country. The addition of the fresh COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours has taken India’s case tally past the 17 lakh-mark to 17,50,724.
Notably, the daily surge in cases has remained over 50,000 for the past four days. Of the 17.5 lakh coronavirus cases in the country, 11.1 lakh cases have been reported in the last month alone. Thus 65.48 per cent of the viral infection has been reported in July.
According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 1,98,21,831 samples have been tested up to August 1 with 4,63,172 samples being tested on Saturday.
Death toll surpasses 37k
The ministry’s data also suggests that 853 deaths have taken place during the past 24 hours.
The fresh fatalities have taken the country’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 37,364. Unfortunately, over 19,000 lives were lost in India due to the viral infection in July alone.
