Srinagar: Ahead of addressing a public gathering in Srinagar on Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah got authorities to remove the bulletproof glass shield from the stage.
He said he wanted to speak directly to the people.
Amit Shah is on a three-day trip to Jammu & Kashmir, his first since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. He arrived in the Union Territory on Saturday. Stringent security arrangements have been made for his stay amid rising incidences of infiltration and militant attacks.
Referring to his instructions to remove the shield, Amit Shah said that he wished to speak to the people “frankly” and hence there was no bulletproof shield or security there.
He said that he would speak to the youth and people of the Valley, not to Pakistan as suggested by Farooq Abdullah.
On the scrapping of Article 370, he said that teh only intention was to put Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh on the path of development. He assured everyone that the fruits of their efforts would be seen by 2024.
Taking further his efforts to connect with the public “directly”, he even greeted the crowd up close.
During his stay, Shah met the family of a police officer who had been killed by militants earlier this year. He also reviewed the security situation in the region.
