Amit Palekar named AAP CM candidate in Goa

Panaji: Amit Palekar, a lawyer and social worker, has been named as the Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Goa Assembly elections.

His name was announced by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, a day after Bhagwant Mann was presented as the party’s CM face for Punjab.

“Many congratulations to Shri Amit Palekar ji for being declared as AAP’s CM candidate for Goa. I am sure u will work hard to fulfill the dream of every Goan and give a corruption free government to the people of Goa,” Kejriwal tweeted.

Amit Palekar, responding to the tweet, wrote, “Sir, thank you so much for entrusting me with this responsibility. I assure you that I will not fail you, the party, or the people of Goa.”

After being named as the CM candidate, Palekar, who had joined the party in October, said the party would get back Goa’s lost glory.

Palekar has made it to the headlines recently with his hunger strike against illegal construction at a heritage site in Old Goa.

Amit Palekar will fight the elections from St Cruz seat which is currently held by BJP. AAP will be contesting on all 40 seats in Goa.

The state goes to polls on February 14.
