AMC ups fine for not wearing mask, spitting in public to Rs500

In an effort to ensure that the mask rule is followed religiously by its citizens, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has hiked the fine for not wearing a mask. It has also increased the fine for spitting in public. Ahmedabad continues to register the second highest number of COVID-19 cases in Gujarat although the number has come down from what it was a month ago.

The civic body has increased the fine for not wearing a mask from Rs200 to Rs500. Spitting in public will also attract a fine of Rs500 now onwards. The civic body has also decided to impose a fine of Rs10,000 on any paan shop owners whose customers are found spitting near the vicinity. It should be noted that since Unlock 1.0 and 2.0 began, COVID-19 cases have seen a surge. Instances of violations of social distancing norms have been reported particularly around paan shops. Earlier the Surat Municipal Corporation too had shut down paan shops and tea stalls in severely affected areas.
