Twenty six new COVID-19 cases were found among passengers and those travelling to Ahmedabad at the railway station on Monday. The AMC has been carrying out COVID-19 tests at offices and construction sites to detect the case.
It has now decided to test migrants and passengers are returning to the city for employment and other work. The AMC has set up units at Ahmedabad Railway station to test such migrant workers.
In the morning itself, the civic body detected 26 positive cases. Every day three trains ferrying passengers and migrant labourers terminate at the station and the AMC has now decided to conduct regular tests here.
The figures are likely to go up by night.
AMC’s earlier drive
In the last week alone, the testing at various construction sites and offices had helped detect 225 positive cases from such sites. Most of those who tested positive belonged to Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
Some of the sites where the AMC carried out testing including the PSP Colony at GMDC ground, several showrooms including those of BMW, Swaminarayan Temple among others. Those who are found positive are put under treatment and moved to COVID care centres and put in isolation.
The passengers of Delhi-Ahmedabad Rajdhani were among those tested and 26 of them were found positive. Those with severe symptoms were moved to COVID_19 Care centres.
COVID-19 in Gujarat
Gujarat on Sunday recorded 1,335 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours taking the total tally to 1,04,341. The state also saw 14 deaths due to the disease including three in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat’s COVID-19 related death toll stands at 3,108. Of the 1,335 fresh cases reported on Sunday, 295 cases have been reported from Surat while 173 were from Ahmedabad.
With the addition of the fresh cases, the total COVID-19 case tally in Ahmedabad has increased to 32,524. The addition of the three fatalities reported in the past 24 hours has taken the death toll due to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad to 1,735.
