AMC seals 32 tea stalls for violation of COVID-19 norms

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday sealed 31 tea stalls in the city for violation of COVID-19 norms. Most of the tea stalls were sealed after it was found that no social distancing was maintained at such stalls.s

After the AMC swung into action several tea stall owners voluntarily shut down their shop. In all, over 1,100 such tea stalls have been shut voluntarily sources in the know said.

The Solid Wastes Management department of the civic body had formed 122 teams to check for COVID-19 norm violations in the city.

How AMC found the violations

The team on Wednesday carried out inspections in 48 wards of the city covering offices, shopping malls, shops and markets.  The AMC began to seal places where employees were either not wearing masks or social distancing was not maintained. Earlier in the initial days of Unlock post-COVID-19, the civic body had carried out a similar drive against pan shop owners.

AMC’s earlier drive

In the first week of September alone, the testing at various construction sites and offices had helped the civic body detect 225 positive cases from such sites. Most of those who tested positive belonged to Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.

Some of the sites where the AMC carried out the testing included the PSP Colony at GMDC ground, several showrooms including those of BMW, Swaminarayan Temple among others.

Those who were found positive were put under treatment and moved to COVID care centres and put in isolation. The passengers arriving at Ahmedabad Railway station were also tested for COVID-19. Those with severe symptoms were moved to COVID-19 care centres.

COVID-19 in Gujarat

Gujarat on Wednesday recorded 1364 new COVID-19 cases and 12 fatalities due to the disease. The highest number of fatalities were recorded in Surat that had five deaths while Ahmedabad had three deaths.  The overall number of deaths due to the disease stands at 3,259.
