One more political leader has tested positive for the COVID-19 disease in the state. Leader of Opposition in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dinesh Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19. His son has also been tested positive. Interestingly, Sharma has claimed that he had not stepped out of his home for the last two months yet he has tested positive. His wife has been put under home quarantine.
Earlier, city BJP chief and Nikol MLA Jagdish Panchal had also tested positive for the disease. He was under treatment at the Apollo Hospital and that had created a controversy as to why the BJP leader was not getting treated at Civil Hospital where the government said all facilities are up to the mark.
The Congress corporator of Hatkeshwar-Bhaipura ward Ilakshiben Patel has also tested positive for the disease. Former Congress leader and city corporator, Badruddin Sheikh had succumbed to the illness. Congress MLA Imran Khedawala had also tested positive for the disease and had been successfully treated.
Gujarat on Friday recorded 372 new COVID-19 cases and 20 new deaths due to the disease in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of cases in the state now stands at 15,944, while the fatalities due to the disease is 980. Of the total deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 18 deaths were reported from Ahmedabad followed by two in Surat.
