AMC, city police launch on-the-spot vaccination drive for ‘super spreaders’

  • Those in the category of ‘super spreaders’ need not register online for vaccination in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and officials of the police department launched an on-the-spot vaccination drive for potential super spreaders of Covid-19 in the city from Wednesday.  Also, those who fall in this category will not require online registration for vaccination.

An AMC officer, on condition of anonymity, said, “Milk vendors, hawkers, grocers, owner of snack stalls, food delivery boys, rickshaw and cab drivers, employees of shopping malls, shopping complexes and restaurants as well as self-employed artisans are included in the category of super spreaders. AMC has been planning for their vaccination. One plan is to set up dedicated vaccination centres for such individuals who work in isolation. Besides, on-the-spot vaccination programme is being arranged for big markets, shopping malls and other such places with the help of police.”

The officer added, “The drive will be intensified in coming two-three days. If needed, the police commissioner will issue a notification in this regard.”

Recently, the Ahmedabad district Collector had made it mandatory for persons in the category of super spreaders to either get vaccinated or procure a negative RTPCR report not older than 10 days if they wanted to carry out business in rural parts of Ahmedabad. While no such rule has been laid down by the city civic body, it has now initiated on-the-spot vaccination. According to sources, AMC may make a similar rule once it has adequate stock of vaccine.
