AMC cancels Diwali holiday of COVID-19 staff, restricts free corona testing for citizens

Ahead of Diwali, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided that only those who report high fever will be allowed to undertake free corona testing offered by the civic body at various places in the city.

The AMC has been offering free COVID-19 testing facilities at various places in the city. With the onset of winter, cases of cough and cold are on the rise prompting many to take benefit of the free COVID-19 testing.

Ahead of Diwali, several such testing centres are reporting long lines.

The move to restrict the free testing to those who report fever above a certain degree is an attempt to prevent crowding at such testing centres.

But this also means many asymptomatic carriers will continue to spread the disease. The AMC’s decision comes even as the city has once again started registering over 1,100 cases.
