Congress has called an urgent legislative meeting in Punjab on Saturday evening
Chandigarh: Ahead of a scheduled meeting of the Congress Legislative Party meeting on Saturday evening, Punjab Chief Minister has reportedly made his displeasure known to party chief Sonia Gandhi. According to reports Amarinder Singh has conveyed to Sonia Gandhi that he will quit if the humiliation continues. However, he has not made any official statement in this regard.
According to sources, the CM has said he will leave the party if he is removed from his post.
There are unconfirmed reports of the party high command having asked Amarinder Singh to step down.
Late on Friday night, AICC general secretary and party in-charge of Punjab affairs Harish Rawat announced an urgent meeting of the Congress Legislative Party at 5 pm on Saturday. Several Congress MLAs in Punjab had made representations seeking the meeting.
It has been reported that many MLAs have said they do not have faith in Amarinder Singh’s ability to honour unfulfilled promises.
The names of Punjab Congress President Navjyot Singh Sidhu and Sunil Jakhar have also been doing rounds for the post of the chief minister of the state.
The turmoil comes just ahead of the Assembly elections in Punjab next year.
