- Ajaz Patel becomes only the 3rd in international history to do so after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble
New Delhi: Jim Laker did it in 1956, Anil Kumble did it in 199 and now Ajaz Patel has done it in 2021.
The New Zealand spinner scored a perfect 10, claiming all the wickets of the Indian side in the first innings of the second test match between India and New Zealand.
The achievement has been made more special for Ajaz Patel as it came to him in Mumbai, the city where he was born.
“It was my day today and I am very very lucky to be sitting here with four wickets and I am pretty happy about it. Being in my hometown at Wankhede is quite special for me,” he was quoted as saying.
Such was the excitement generated by his feat that even the Indian side could not help applauding it. Many were seen giving him a standing ovation.
“Welcome to the club #AjazPatel #Perfect10 Well bowled! A special effort to achieve it on Day1 & 2 of a test match,” said Anil Kumble.
“Wonderful wonderful achievement and such a beautiful story. Delighted for you #AjazPatel,” tweeted cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle.
