Gujarat has reported 228 fresh cases of coronavirus in the past 12-hours ending at 10 am on Sunday. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the state’s coronavirus case tally to 1,604.
After 12 deaths were reported from Gujarat on Saturday, five fresh deaths were again reported on Sunday that pushed the state’s death toll due to COVID-19 to 58. Out of the five deaths in the state, four deaths have been reported from Ahmedabad and one death has been reported from Surat.
In Ahmedabad, a 78-year-old man, a 66-year-old woman, a 56-year-old man, and a 43-year-old woman succumbed to the deadly virus at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Hospital. In Surat, a 56-year-old woman died in Mission Hospital.
Out of the 228 new cases, 140 cases are of Ahmedabad alone, whereas Surat and Vadodara reported 67 and eight fresh cases, respectively. Rajkot has reported five fresh cases, and Bhavnagar and Banaskantha have each reported two fresh cases. Anand, Botad, Chhota Udepur, and Mehsana have reported one case each.
With the addition of the 140 fresh cases till 10 am on Sunday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 1,002—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After four deaths were reported on Saturday, four deaths were again reported on Sunday that pushed the death toll due to the deadly virus to 29 in Ahmedabad.
Apart from the 1,002 COVID-19 cases reported from Ahmedabad so far, Surat has reported 220 cases, followed by Vadodara with 166 cases and Rajkot with 35 cases. Bhavnagar has reported 32 cases and Anand has reported 28 cases. Bharuch has reported 22 cases, whereas the capital city of Gandhinagar reported 17 cases and Patan reported 15 cases.
Similarly, Narmada has reported 11 cases, Banaskantha reported 10 cases, and Panchmahals reported nine cases. Chhota Udepur has reported seven cases and Mehsana and Botad reported five cases. Kutch has reported four cases, whereas Porbandar has reported three cases. The coastal district of Gir-Somnath, Kheda, Sabarkantha, Mahisagar, and Dahod have each reported two cases. The districts of Jamnagar, Aravalli, and Morbi have reported one case each.
According to the Health Department, out of the total cases, nine people are in a critical state and put on ventilator support, 1,443 people are stable, 94 people have been discharged, and 58 have died. Information made available by the department also provides that 1,537 cases out of the total 1,604 are incidents of local transmission, 33 people have a history of international travel, and 34 have a history of inter-state travel.
As far as deaths are concerned, apart from the 29 deaths reported in Ahmedabad, eight deaths have been reported from Surat and seven deaths have been reported from Vadodara. Bhavnagar is trailing Vadodara with four deaths, Gandhinagar and Panchmahals have each reported two deaths, and one death each has been reported from Jamnagar, Botad, Anand, Kutch, Aravalli, and Patan. Out of the 58 deaths, three had a history of international travel, three had a history of inter-state travel, and the rest 52 cases were incidents of local transmission.
So far, 18,540 people have been placed under quarantine.
