Ahmedabad woman who fought coronavirus gets heartwarming welcome


The first COVID 19 patient who was discharged from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital in Ahmedabad after her successful treatment received a heartwarming welcome when she entered her society. A video of her welcome, also containing an awareness message from the 34-year-old woman, has now gone viral on social media.

In the video, the woman, Sumiti Singh, is seen requesting people not to panic and to stay at home to contain the spread of the virus. She also said if someone contracts the infection, they should immediately contact a hospital where doctors would render the best possible treatment.

Notably, sources in SVP Hospital had earlier said the patient has fully recovered after 10 days of care and management and tested negative twice in the last 24 hours. She was discharged on Sunday as per protocols, the hospital informed.

Singh was admitted to the hospital on March 18 with symptoms akin to coronavirus. She tested positive for the contagious disease.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Gujarat has increased to 69 on Monday after six new cases of the virus were reported from the state.  With the addition of the new cases, now Ahmedabad has 23 positive cases, followed by nine each in Vadodara, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar. Eight cases of coronavirus have been reported each from Surat and Bhavnagar has reported six cases, whereas Gir-Somnath has reported two cases. One case each has been reported from Porbandar, Kutch, and Mehsana.

Gujarat has also reported six deaths due to the virus till Monday. The total death tally includes three in Ahmedabad, two in Bhavnagar, and one in Surat.
