Ahmedabad to Rajkot to be a 2 hours journey now. The state government has approved the semi high speed rail project and the estimated cost of the project will be around Rs 11,300 crore. The initial work on the project has already begun. The Ahmedabad–Rajkot semi HSR will be linked to Ahmedabad-Mumbai high speed rail and will act as a feeder to it.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has given green signal to the project. The project, estimated to cost Rs 11,300 crore, will subsequently be linked to the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high speed rail corridor project of the Union government.
The state government proposes to build an elevated corridor on the existing national highway 47, between Ahmedabad and Rajkot. Trains will achieve speeds in excess of 160 kilometers per hour on the route and the travelling time between the two cities will be reduced to just over two hours. The project is expected to generate about 2,300 direct jobs .and around 7,300 indirect jobs over the next 30 years.
