In what could be a major cause of concern for the Gujarat government, 124 fresh cases of the virus were reported in the last 24-hours—the highest rise in a day so far—taking the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 432 in the state. No fresh death has been reported on Saturday and the death toll in Gujarat due to the deadly virus continues to remain 19.
Out of the 124 new cases, 75 cases are of Ahmedabad alone, whereas 38 cases have been reported from Vadodara. Four fresh cases have been reported from Surat, and Anand and Bharuch have each reported three cases. One case has been reported from Bhavnagar.
With the addition of the 75 fresh cases in the last 24-hours till 10 am on Saturday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 228—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After one death was reported on Friday, the death toll due to the deadly virus has increased to seven in Ahmedabad.
Apart from the 228 COVID-19 cases reported from Ahmedabad so far, Vadodara has reported 77 cases, followed by Surat with 28 cases and Bhavnagar with 23 cases. Rajkot has reported 18 cases, whereas the capital city of Gandhinagar and Patan have each reported 14 cases. Bharuch has reported seven cases, whereas the coastal district of Porbandar has reported three cases.
Anand has reported five cases and Kutch has reported four cases. The districts of Mehsana, Gir-Somnath, and Chhota Udepur have each reported two cases, whereas Panchmahals, Jamnagar, Morbi, Sabarkantha, and Dahod have each reported one case.
According to the Health Department, out of the total cases, three people are in a critical state and put on ventilator support, 376 people are stable, 34 people have been discharged, and 19 have died. Information made available by the department also provides that 367 cases out of the total 432 are incidents of local transmission, 33 people have a history of international travel, and 32 have a history of inter-state travel.
As far as deaths are concerned, apart from the seven deaths reported in Ahmedabad, four deaths have been reported from the diamond city of Surat, two deaths have been reported each from Bhavnagar and Vadodara, and one death each has been reported from Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Panchmahals, and Patan. Out of the 19 deaths, three had a history of international travel, three had a history of inter-state travel, and the rest 13 cases were incidents of local transmission.
So far, 12,042 people have been placed under quarantine.
