In what could be a major cause of concern for the Gujarat government, 90 fresh cases of the virus were reported in the state on Saturday taking the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 468.
Three fresh deaths were also reported from Ahmedabad in the past 12-hours resulting in the death toll due to the deadly virus surging to 22. A 65-year-old man died in SVP Hospital and a 70-year-old man and a 65-year-old man died in Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. One of the deceased who availed treatment at Civil Hospital was suffering from diabetes, hospital sources said.
As far as fresh cases are concerned, 46 cases out of the 90 are from Ahmedabad alone, whereas 36 cases have been reported from Vadodara. Three fresh cases have been reported from Anand, whereas Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Chhota Udepur, Gandhinagar, and Surat have each reported one case.
With the addition of the 90 fresh cases till 8 pm on Saturday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 243—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of 10 deaths in the state. While one death was reported on Friday, the city recorded three fresh deaths on Saturday.
Apart from the 243 COVID-19 cases reported from Ahmedabad so far, Vadodara has reported 95 cases, followed by Surat with 28 cases and Bhavnagar with 23 cases. Rajkot has reported 18 cases, whereas the capital city of Gandhinagar reported 15 cases and Patan reported 14 cases. Bharuch has reported eight cases, whereas the coastal district of Porbandar and Chhota Udepur have each reported three cases.
Anand has reported five cases and Kutch has reported four cases. The districts of Mehsana and Gir-Somnath have each reported two cases, whereas Panchmahals, Jamnagar, Morbi, Sabarkantha, and Dahod have each reported one case.
According to the Health Department, out of the total cases, four people are in a critical state and put on ventilator support, 398 people are stable, 44 people have been discharged, and 22 have died. Information made available by the department also provides that 403 cases out of the total 468 are incidents of local transmission, 33 people have a history of international travel, and 32 have a history of inter-state travel.
As far as deaths are concerned, apart from the 10 deaths reported in Ahmedabad, four deaths have been reported from the diamond city of Surat, two deaths have been reported each from Bhavnagar and Vadodara, and one death each has been reported from Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Panchmahals, and Patan. Out of the 22 deaths, three had a history of international travel, three had a history of inter-state travel, and the rest 16 cases were incidents of local transmission.
So far, 12,042 people have been placed under quarantine.
