Ahmedabad police receive flak for attacking vegetable vendors

At a time when authorities in Gujarat are trying their best to ensure zero disruption in the supply and availability of essential items such as medicines, groceries, vegetables, and fruits, a video that surfaced on the social media on Tuesday left the Ahmedabad Police red-faced.

Notably, the video shows police personnel of Krishnanagar police station ransacking vegetable carts and abusing vegetable sellers. In fact, the unruly police personnel do not stop there and went on to drop the entire vegetable stock from the carts on the road.

The video surfaced at a time when the Gujarat Police was trying to improve its image and showcase its humanitarian face whereby police officers were seen helping out migrants and poor people with food and groceries. The act of the police personnel garnered severe criticism on social media.

As a result, director general of police (DGP) Shivanand Jha has taken the issue seriously and ordered the suspension of police personnel involved in the same and initiation of an inquiry against them.
