Gandhinagar: 1985 batch IPS officer A K Singh who holds charge of Ahmedabad City as Police Commissioner is appointed as DG of National Security Guard by the Central home ministry.
A K Singh has been posted at Ahmedabad city as Police commissioner since last two years and now home ministry is sending him on deputation to Delhi. Today ministry has approved the proposal of home affairs for appointment of Anup Kumar Singh as Director General of National Security Guard from the date of joining up to 30th September 2020 i.e. to the date of his superannuation or till further order.
Previously, A K Singh had served in SPG as DIG and having experience of deputation, now he will join the NSG.
A K Singh’s retirement is due in September 2020, he is the most senior officer after Shivanand Jha (Present DGP, retiring in April 2020) who can take charge for DGP Gujarat but as per the order of Supreme Court of India, he is not an eligible DGP candidate, as there should be a gap of at least 6 months in retirement of two consecutive DGPs and there is a gap of only 5 months between the retirement of the two officers.
After A K Singh, Special Police Commissioner (Crime Branch), Ajay Tomar will likely to take charge of Ahmedabad Police Commissioner. This is still not disclosed that who will be the next DGP Gujarat.
