Ahmedabad police bust illegal call centre conning Americans, nab five

The city police have busted one more call centre operating in the city. Recently the cops had held one Nirav Raichura in a call centre scam and his interrogation had revealed that several such call centres were operational in the city.

The cops have nabbed five men who were part of a call centre operating from Emporium Kunj Complex in Chandkheda’s Tapovan circle.

The call centre raided by a squad of DCP Zone 2, Vijay Patel was operating from the sixth floor of the building.

The men used to pose as American citizens and get the social security numbers of American citizens. They would then tell them that their numbers had been compromised and they needed to apply for new ones.

They would then offer them the same and would charge them a fee for the process which they used to pocket.

What did the call centre do?

The five who were arrested have been identified as Akshay Bhavsar, 26, Austin Nadar, 33, Mahesh Virani, 21, Amit Chachlani, 28 and Prince Gupta. One of them belongs to Thane while the rest live in Chandkheda and Vastral.

Cops also seized 8 laptops, 6 earphone sets and mouse, two routers and LAN connecting board and 6 mobile phones. Cops also seized Rs4000 in cash.

Zone 2 DCP Vijay Patel said that the accused had rented the place 20 days ago to run the call centre. The accused used VC Dialer application to pose as American citizens and talked to Americans.

They would then call up American citizens and tell them that their social security cards had been compromised and they needed to apply for new ones.

They would then ask them to pay a token amount for the same. They would then pocket the money.
