The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday declared three more hospitals in the city as designated COVID hospitals. The three hospitals include LG General Hospital, VS General Hospital and Shardaben Hospital.
Following the decision, the entire bed strength of these three hospitals except the gynaecology emergency department in Shardaben Hospital will be made available for the treatment of COVID-19 cases. The civic body has already declared the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Hospital as a designated COVID hospital.
Notably, the fresh development comes at a time when there is a hue and cry over the mismanagement of the pandemic by the state government. Several people have complained about the lack of hospital beds available for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, whereas many have complained about the unavailability of Remdesivir injections required for the treatment.
Recently, the Gujarat High Court too expressed its unhappiness over the pathetic situation in the state due to the health crisis and lambasted the state government. The court expressed unhappiness over patients being turned away by hospitals despite having vacant beds, people being forced by hospitals to search for Remdesivir injections and an overall sorry state of affairs in Gujarat.

This apart, the government has also decided to come up with a 900-bed full-fledged hospital for COVID-19 patients at GMDC ground to meet the bed shortage.
