- Over four MLAs and 25 corporators from the city have tested positive so far
- Two MPs from Ahmedabad have also tested positive
- BJP Gujarat president CR Patil is also under treatment for the disease
Dinesh Makwana, Ahmedabad Deputy Mayor, has tested positive for COVID-19. Dinesh Makwana has been put under home quarantine. So far over 25 corporators of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have tested positive for the disease.
Two corporators Badruddin Sheikh and Gayaprasad have succumbed to the disease. Four MLAs from Ahmedabad- Imran Khedawala, Jagdish Panchal, Kishor Chauhan and Balram Thavani- have also tested positive for the disease. Two MPs from Ahmedabad Dr Kirit Solanki and Hasmukh Patel have also tested positive for the disease.
AMC focuses on target areas
The AMC has been carrying out tests to look for superspreaders. It has also carried out tests at construction sites, offices, religious places and tested of AMTS bus drivers and even passengers at the railway station to help detect more cases.
The AMC began testing passengers at Kalupur Railway station two days ago.
7 others in BJP office test positive
In addition to BJP state president CR Patil, BJP spokesperson Bharat Panday, BJP office secretary Paresh Patel, Mahila Morcha secretary Monaben Raval and Ahmedabad East MP Hasmukh Patel also tested positive due to the disease on Wednesday.
Apart from the above-mentioned leaders, telephone operator at the BJP office in Gandhinagar Rakesh Pandya and two sanitation workers and a driver have also tested positive. In all seven people at the office have tested positive for the disease.
There is a fear that more people would have been infected as BJP workers from across the state visit the office. Every Monday and Tuesday Party leaders meet workers to address their problems.
BJP spokesperson Bharat Panday who tested positive has been admitted to the UN Mehta Hospital. He had also accompanied Patil during his tour of North Gujarat.
