Ahmedabad: The Vir Bhagatsinh Municipal Hall in Gomtipur area of Ahmedabad is ready and has been awaiting inauguration for past two-and-a-half years. However, with no end in sight to that wait, Congress leaders and workers stage a unique protest on Wednesday to put forth their demand for inauguration of the hall at the earliest.
The protesters organized a besna to protest what they call the lackadaisical attitude of the administration at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The besna was held outside the Vir Bhagasinh Hall. An announcement of the besna showed a garland around the image of the hall.
The protest had been organized by Congress corporator from Gomtipur Iqbal Sheikh and other Congress leaders of the area. He also demanded that the hall be thrown open to the public at the earliest.
Four years ago, AMC had approved the renovation work of the Vir Bhagatsinh Hall. The hall was renovated at a cost of Rs-3-4 crore. However, for a year after that, no leader had the time to inaugurate it. Following that, the inauguration was further delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the resultant lockdown. Thus, the hall has remained closed for past two-and-a-half years.
Sheikh had announced the besna via social media along with a demand to inaugurate the hall. The programme was held on Wednesday.
