Congress leader Ahmed Patel’s condition worsens, shifted to ICU


Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat Ahmed Patel’s condition has worsened after he tested positive for coronavirus last month.

Notably, Ahmed Patel had tested positive for COVID-19 on October. Now, he has been shifted to the intensive care unit of Medanta Hospital, his family revealed on Sunday.

Ahmed Patel’s son Faisal Patel posted a tweet in this regard. He said: “On behalf of his family, we would like to share that Shri Ahmed Patel had tested positive for Covid19 a few weeks ago. He has now been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon for further treatment. His condition is stable and he continues to be under medical observation…We request you to pray for his speedy recovery.”

A septuagenarian, Ahmed Patel, had on October 1 announced that he had contracted coronavirus. He wrote: “I have tested positive for Covid19.  I request all those who came in close contact with me recently, to self-isolate.”

Congress leaders pray for Ahmed Patel’s speedy recovery

As the news of his health condition spread, several Congress leaders, including Shashi Tharoor and Anand Sharama, expressed concern and wished the veteran leader a speedy success.

Tharoor described Ahmed Patel as an “extraordinary figure in India politics” and wished him well.

He said: “An extraordinary figure in Indian politics, @ahmedpatel, battles for his health. I have long been an admirer of his exceptional qualities & wish him a speedy & complete recovery. He has pulled off many great victories; praying that this will be one more!”

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma tweeted: “Deeply concerned and praying for the good health of my friend and comrade Ahmed Patel. Please join us in praying for his early recovery.”

Notably, several politicians, including Union ministers, had tested positive for coronavirus in the past and recovered from the viral infection.

These include Union home minister Amit Shah, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, and Congress leaders Abhishek Singhvi and Tarun Gogoi among others.
