#Column: After Nehra, one more IAS officer to face the axe soon

After Vijay Nehra, one more senior IAS officer is likely to be shunted out soon. This transfer is also likely to be a fall out of the mishandling of the COVID-19 situation in the officer’s domain.

This IAS officer is again part of the core team of the state government handling the COVID-19. The domain that this officer presides over has also faced some ire from the public. There is a possibility that someone else will be given responsibility to bring back the glory of the department in the public eye.

Many decisions taken by this IAS officer has raised quite an outcry among the public. Also, some of the decisions have brought embarrassment to the state government as well and fellow officers in the team have also complained of being left out while taking key decisions.

Earlier, handling of the situation in Ahmedabad had caused quite an embarrassment for the state government at the national level. The situation in Ahmedabad worsened very rapidly and the city administration failed to control the situation effectively. So first Nehra announced on Twitter that he had come in close contact with a COVID-19 positive patient and was going for a home quarantine for two weeks. Mukesh Kumar was given charge as Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner and Rajiv Gupta, additional chief secretary, was given overall charge to bring the situation in Ahmedabad under control.
