After Congress MLA from Jamalpur Khadia, Imran Khedawala, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday evening, another senior Congress leader and councillor Badruddin Shaikh has also tested positive for the deadly virus, resulting in a panic.
Two Congress MLAs from the old city areas who were in constant touch with Khedawala and Shaikh—Gyasuddin Sheikh and Shailesh Parmar—have given their samples for COVID-19 testing and their results are awaited. Both the MLAs have been quarantined at home.
Notably, the Congress councillor from Behrampura area in Ahmedabad was distributing grocery to needy people in his constituency. He, however, stays at Shah Alam, where the number of coronavirus cases is increasing rapidly.
Meanwhile, with the addition of the 31 fresh cases on Wednesday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 404—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After the death reported on April 13, the death toll due to the deadly virus increased to 13 in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat has so far registered 695 cases of the virus, whereas the death toll has increased to 30 after two fresh deaths were reported in the last 12-hours. A 14-year-old girl died in SSG Hospital in Vadodara. She was suffering from brain-related ailments. This apart, a 45-year-old woman died in Metas Hospital in Surat due to the deadly virus. The woman was suffering from hypertension.
