A news agency reported that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd’s (BSNL) tender for 4G upgrade has been cancelled. This comes days after the Department of Telecom (DoT) strictly asked BSNL not to use Chinese telecom gear for the upgrade. The agency quoted a government source as saying that a new tender will be floated and it will emphasis on preference for Make in India.
The agency said that the company had to issue a new tender after the government told it not to use Chinese equipment in 4G upgrade. Earlier in the day Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that India will not allow Chinese companies to participate in highway projects, including those through joint ventures. He also said efforts will be made to ensure that Chinese investors are not entertained in various sectors like Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Earlier the Indian Railways’ Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) decided to terminate the contract with China’s Beijing National Railway Research & Design Institute of Signal & Communication worth Rs471 crore owing to delay in finishing work.
