With the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus rising rapidly in Surat, the state government on Thursday announced the imposition of curfew in areas under five police stations of the city from midnight.
The police stations include Salabatpura, Mahidharpura, Lalgate, Athva, and Limbayat. The curfew in the areas under these police stations will continue till 6 am on April 22, read a statement issued by the chief minister’s office (CMO).
As a relief to the residents of these areas, curfew will be daily lifted from 1 pm to 4 pm and only women will be permitted to go out to buy groceries, milk, vegetables, fruits, medicines, and other essential items.
Notably, the Gujarat government has already imposed a curfew in the walled city areas, Behrampura, and Danilimda of Ahmedabad from Wednesday that would continue till 6 am on April 22. Like Surat, a three-hour relaxation has been also granted in Ahmedabad for women to buy essential items, groceries, and medicines.
Notably, Gujarat has reported 105 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 12-hours ending at 10 am on Thursday taking the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 871 in the state. While Surat has reported 86 cases and five deaths, Ahmedabad has reported 492 cases and 17 deaths.
