ACB nabs Viramgam corporator for taking Rs 20,000 bribe

Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau nabbed the corporator of ward number 1 in Viramgam for taking bribe. Another corporator of the ward, along with the third corporator’s husband, have been named as accused in the case. The trio has been accused of conniving with each other to demand bribe. A minor who was detained by the ACB from the spot has been sent to an observation home.

The complainant, a contractor who had bagged the contract of dredging a lake under the Sujalam Sufalam Yojna, had accused corporators Ajay Thakor and Anil Patel of ward number 1 of Viramgam, along with Ratilal Thakor who is the husband of the third contractor of the ward Kanchanben, of demanding Rs 30,000 bribe. He claimed he had given a mobile phone worth Rs 10,000 to Ajay Thakor. However, the trio continued to demand the remaining amount frequently.

The complainant then approached the ACB. A team led by ACB-Ahmedabad (rural) PI SN Barot, under the supervision of assistant director KB Chudasama, laid a trap and nabbed Ajay Rathod from Pavan Farm on Mandal Road in Viramgam, taking Rs 20,000 bribe. A 17-year-old boy who was detained from the spot was sent to the observation home. Further investigation in the case is underway.
