The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has given a clean chit to former state Water Resources Development Minister Ajit Pawar in the multi-crore Vidarbha irrigation scam. Just a day before Uddhav Thackeray became Chief Minister, the investigating agency ACB gave him a clean chit in all cases.
Earlier on 25 November when ACB closed nine cases related to the irrigation scam in the middle of political turmoil in Maharashtra. The ACB had said that the nine cases which have been closed are not related to Ajit Pawar.
Devendra Fadnavis and BJP have always targeted Ajit Pawar over the irrigation scam. The first action he took after becoming CM in 2014 was to order an inquiry into the alleged role of Ajit Pawar in the irrigation scam. There are allegations of misappropriation of about Rs 70000 crore when Ajit Pawar was Deputy CM at the time of Congress-NCP government. Irrigation scams include irregularities in approving and implementing many irrigation projects during the Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra.
