AAP delivers a stellar performance in Surat, Kejriwal to attend roadshow on Feb 26


The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has delivered a stellar performance winning 27 seats in the Surat Municipal Corporation election, with the Congress scoring a big zero in the diamond city.

Out of the 120 seats, 93 seats have been won by the BJP, 27 seats have been bagged by AAP and Congress could not open its account. Following the victory, AAP will be taking over as the Opposition in Surat Municipal Corporation.

AAP also held a press conference thanking the people for trusting the party that has made inroads in Gujarat by propagating itself as an alternative to BJP and Congress. An AAP spokesperson said that the vote share of the party has considerably improved and assured people that AAP will play the role of an active Opposition in Surat.

The party spokesperson said that AAP will raise issues affecting the people of Surat and Gujarat. He said that the party and its supporters will continue to raise issues related to fee hikes in schools and the surge in power tariffs.

Arvind Kejriwal’s roadshow

AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will be coming to Surat on February 26 to take part in a roadshow that will be orgnaised by the party to express its gratitude towards voters of the city.

Notably, Kejriwal on Tuesday also tweeted about the Gujarat civic polls results. He said, “Heartfelt congratulations to the people for introducing a new form of politics in Gujarat.

Congress wiped out

The Congress party was completely wiped out in the Surat Municipal Corporation election, not being able to win a single seat. The dismal performance of Congress was not confined to just Surat and was witnessed in all six municipal corporations of the state where elections were held.

Meanwhile, unhappy with the Congress party leaders, angry party workers burnt the effigy of Congress president Babu Raika and other leaders near the party office in Nanpura.
