Gujarat AAP criticises BJP’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra, terms it “an insult to COVID-19 victims”

With the Assembly polls in the state due next year, politics in Gujarat is gradually heating up and the political parties are leaving no stone unturned to utilise the lull in COVID-19 infections and deaths to make the most of the opportunity.

While the BJP is carrying out the Jan Ashirwad Yatra, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is questioning the move saying the yatra is an insult to people of the state who died due to COVID-19 in the absence of medical oxygen.

During a press conference, AAP leader Isudan Gadhvi said BJP leaders have set out on the yatra amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that the second wave of the pandemic wreaked havoc in Gujarat. As the state government failed, the Union government had to send central leaders, the AAP leader said.

Inflation biggest problem, says AAP

Gadhvi said that inflation, high fuel prices and farmer issues are some of the biggest problems of the present time and questioned the BJP leadership on whether it will take blessings of people on these issues as well. He also demanded that the family of those who died due to COVID-19 should be provided a compensation of Rs 1 lakh, like it has been done in Delhi. Gadhvi also said that instead of spending millions on banners and posters for the yatra, money should be given to people who lost their near and dear ones in the pandemic.

Shiv Sena criticises BJP’s yatra

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday lashed out at the BJP for the Jan Ashirwad Yatra being carried out by Union ministers in several states and termed it as an invitation for the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also blamed the saffron party for doing it deliberately and urged it to have patience.
