Delhi: The effect of severe cyclone Biparjoy is beginning to be seen. Stormy waves are rising in the sea from Mumbai to Kerala coast. IMD has declared high alert in Gujarat. Apart from Gujarat, warning has also been issued for other states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for several states and union territories including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Lakshadweep etc. An alert has also been sounded for fishermen in Gujarat. The ports have been closed till June 16.

Heavy rain likely in these states
Ahead of the cyclone, heavy rain and strong winds have turned the weather in many states. According to the India Meteorological Department, Jodhpur and Udaipur of Rajasthan are likely to experience heavy rain on June 15 due to the impact of Cyclone Biparjoy. Wind speed is likely to remain between 45 to 55 kmph in southwest Rajasthan on June 16. According to India Meteorological Department, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Ajmer and surrounding areas are likely to receive heavy rain till June 17.
Cyclone to hit Kutch on June 15
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, very severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy will make landfall near Jakhau Port in Kutch district on Thursday afternoon, June 15. The maximum wind speed will be 150 km per hour. After landfall, its speed will decrease. At 2030 (IST) today Cyclone Biparjoy was located about 220 km southwest of Jakhau Port (Gujarat) near latitude 21.9N and longitude 66.5E. It is likely to cross Jakhau port by the evening of 15th June.
Cyclone Biparjoy’s speed is causing high waves in Mumbai. More than 74,000 people, living in coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat, have been shifted to shelter homes. A total of 17 teams of NDRF have been deployed, including four in Kutch, three each in Dwarka and Rajkot, two in Jamnagar and one in Porbandar. Besides, two days holiday has been declared in the schools of Kutch, Porbandar, Amreli, Gir Somnath and Dwarka districts of Gujarat.
