At least 261 people were killed and over 900 injured in the crash in Odisha’s Balasore involving the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a goods train on Friday evening. Earlier, there were reports of 238 death, now the death toll has risen to 261. According to the media reports, rescue work has concluded and restoration work is underway at the accident site. Meanwhile, condolence messages and reactions have continued to come from all around the world.

Japanese PM Fumio Kishida in a message to PM Narendra Modi said, ” I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of many precious lives and the injuries in the train accident in the State of Odisha. On behalf of the Government of Japan and people, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and their bereaved families. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his condolences to President of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the deadly train collision in the Indian state of Odisha. Russian Embassy in India said, the message reads, “We share the grief of those who lost their loved ones in this tragic accident and wish a speedy recovery for those injured.”
UK’s Foreign Secretary James Cleverly in a tweet said, “…My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims..”
US Ambassador in India, Eric Garcetti who recently took a trip around several parts of the country in a tweet extended his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic train accident.
Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs and a senator from Australia, Penny Wong also expressed the deepest sympathies following the devastating train crash in India’s eastern Odisha state.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau expressed grief over loss of lives in Odisha’s train mishap in a tweet. PM Trudeau tweeted, “The images and reports of the train crash in Odisha, India break my heart. I’m sending my deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones, and I’m keeping the injured in my thoughts. At this difficult time, Canadians are standing with the people of India.”
Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal stated that it was saddening to know about the “loss of dozens of lives in a train accident in Odisha” and extended his condolences.
