After polling for 224 assembly seats in Karnataka on May 10, the counting of votes is underway at 36 centers on Saturday (May 13). Most exit polls show the Congress in majority or emerging as the single largest party. According to the initial trends the Congress and the BJP were being seen in a tough competition.

But according to latest trend The Congress party was leading in 119 seats and the BJP in 72, while the JDS is ahead in 25 seats. According to the latest trend the Congress party has crossed majority mark.
Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar, an aspirant to be chief minister, is leading in early trends of counting while Jagadish Shettar, who switched to the Congress from the BJP, is trailing in Hubli-Dharwad-Central.
Still there is much time left for results to be declared in Karnataka but celebrations have already begun outside the Congress Party office in Delhi.

Many Congress leaders have also claimed a major victory. Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Yatindra said, “We will get absolute majority and form our government. We are confident and all the surveys also point out that the Congress will win the Karnataka assembly elections.
Counting of votes in Karnataka is underway. Meanwhile, State Chief Minister Basavaraj Bomai reached the Hanuman temple in Hubli before the counting of votes began. Bomai hopes of BJP win in Karnataka assembly election. CM Bomai said, ” today is an important and a special day for Karnataka. Today the mandate of the people will be declared. I am confident that BJP will get majority and a stable government will be formed in the state.”
