Imphal: Huge loss of life and property has been reported in the violence that broke out in Manipur on May 3. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh informed on Monday that 60 people have died in the violence so far, while more than 200 people have been injured. CM believes that still more than 10 thousand people are stranded. Biren Singh also said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is keeping an eye on the entire development since day one. Manipur CM has announced compensation for the families affected by the violence.

Biren Singh, while talking to media on Monday evening, said, “ Around 60 innocent people have lost their lives, 231 people suffered injuries and around 1700 houses burnt down in the unfortunate incident of May 3. I appeal to people to bring peace and calm to the state. Transportation of stranded persons to their respective locations has started.” A high-level probe will be conducted at the earliest to find out the person and group responsible for instigating the violence.
According to CM Biren Singh, curfew has been relaxed to enable people to buy essential goods. He added, ” Rs 5 lakh for the family of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh for those injured with serious injuries and Rs 25,000 for non-serious injuries and compensation up to Rs 2 lakh will be given to those whose houses have been destroyed.”
Besides, he said that so far 20,000 stranded people have been evacuated. About 10,000 people are still stranded. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is monitoring the situation from the day of the incident till today. He has also sent several companies of central forces.
