Delhi’s Rohini Court on Wednesday issued summons to the BBC over a documentary on PM Narendra Modi. In the summons sent to BBC, the court has asked for a written reply within 30 days. The summons has been issued during the hearing of the defamation case filed by Jharkhand BJP leader Binay Kumar Singh.

“The defendant is directed to file his written statement within 30 days from the date of service of the summons. Endorsement be made on the summons accordingly,” the order, passed by Additional District Judge of the Rohini court, Ruchika Singla, said.
The next hearing is scheduled on May 11. Besides, the court has also issued a notice to the Wikimedia Foundation, which funds Wikipedia and the Internet Archive Digital Library of America.
Binay Kumar Singh, Jharkhand BJP leader approached the court and said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Vishwa Hindu Parishad have been defamed by releasing the BBC documentary.
BBC produced a two-part documentary series titled ‘India: The Modi Question’. This series is based on the 2002 Gujarat riots. The Government of India blocked the link to the documentary series on Twitter and YouTube On January 21. Talking to the media, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said on the documentary that they think it is a propaganda piece. It has no objectivity, it is biased. Note that it has not been displayed in India.
