DA case: CBI arrests WAPCOS ex-head and his son, Rs 38.38 crore cash, valuables seized in raids

CBI has arrested a former chairman and managing director of WAPCOS, Rajinder Kumar Gupta, and his son for the alleged possession of disproportionate assets. After conducting raids at 19 locations across Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Sonepat, and Ghaziabad at the premises of the accused, CBI has also recovered Rs 38.8 crore, a large quantity of jewellery, some valuable items, and other incriminating documents.

According to media reports, Gupta had been booked recently for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. An FIR was registered against Gupta, his wife Reema Singal, his son Gaurav Singal, and his daughter-in-law Komal Singal.

A CBI spokesperson said, “The CBI has arrested Rajinder Kumar Gupta, former CMD, WAPCOS and his son Gaurav Singal. During searches conducted so far, cash of Rs 38.38 crore (approximately), FDRs, keys of bank lockers, and details of accounts in various banks have been recovered from the premises of the accused.”

“It was further alleged that the accused after retiring from the service started a consultancy business in the name of a private company based in Delhi. The alleged immovable properties belonging to the accused include flats, commercial properties and farmhouses spread across Delhi, Gurugram, Panchkula, Sonipat and Chandigarh,” he said.

The CBI conducted searches at 19 locations across Delhi, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Sonipat and Ghaziabad at the premises of accused which led to recovery of huge cash of ₹20 crore (approximately), huge amounts of jewellery and other valuable items, and incriminating documents.
