A Cyclone is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal in early May and the possibility of the West Bengal coast being affected is not ruled out, according to a forecast by India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday. As of now, IMD has predicted only the formation of a low- pressure area, but the circulation may turn into a severe cyclone in the second week of May.

IMD has also issued an alert for the next 5 days. In the circumstances of cyclone development, there may be another round of unseasonal rain up to Gujarat and it may spoil the agricultural cycle for the year.
According to IMD, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with strong winds in northwest India for the next 2 days. America’s weather forecast model Global Forecast System and European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecast have also expressed the possibility of a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal. IMD has also expressed similar apprehensions.
IMD official said,” We are monitoring the cyclone. However, according to the forecast by Skymet weather, a private agency, there is very little chance of any tropical storm in the first 15 days of May. No cyclonic storm has been observed in Indian seas in April.
According to IMD, there may be hailstorm with thunder, lightning, thunderstorm and rain at many places in Uttar Pradesh. The wind speed is likely to be 40 to 50 km per hour due to the storm. Uttar Pradesh experienced light to moderate rain on May 1. While some places of western Uttar Pradesh experienced heavy rain. IMD has predicted heavy rain over Punjab, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and isolated places.
