Four people were killed and 20 others injured after a three-story rice mill building collapsed in Karnal district of Haryana on Tuesday. Police said, the incident took place at around 3 am at the Shiv Shakti rice mill in Taraori town of the district. As around 200 labourers were sleeping, the roof of the top floor of the building collapsed. In the incident four migrant workers died.

Meanwhile, DC Karnal Anish Yadav said, ” A total of 24 people have been affected out of which 20 are injured and 4 are dead. Around 150 workers were inside the building when the incident took place. The injured have been admitted to a hospital. Prima facie we found that the building had some defects. A committee will be formed to investigate the incident. Legal action will be taken against the rice mill owners.”
Earlier, Karnal Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan said, all the deceased have been identified as migrant workers and their bodies have been taken out. The injured have been immediately taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Many workers are still feared to be trapped inside the rubble and rescue operations are currently underway, with the involvement of fire brigades, police, and ambulances.
Meanwhile, National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) teams also reached to the spot. Heavy police deployment has been made as hundreds of labourers have gathered at the incident spot.
